41.1 Improving the Sidestand Bolt Design.

The Commando Sidestand attachment is a rather poor design- a single-shear bolt, in lieu of a proper clevis arrangement in double-shear.

I improved mine by 1) enlarging the hole in the Sidestand and bushing it back to size with a nickel-bronze bush, and 2) Substituting an NAS-series 95 KSI aircraft bolt, with a castellated nut and then cottered. Use large flat washers on both head and nut sides. Check the spring periodically to make sure that it's not about to give out where the loop hooks into the frame. I keep a spare on hand............

Lube frequently, and NEVER load the stand with anything but the weight of the bike.
