G'day,
There's your answer there chromium for increased penetration of the hardening process and response to heat treatment and molybdenum also causes the steel to harden more evenly and increases toughness chromoly will be numbered with a four digit code starting with 41xx chrome moly nickel starts with 43xx most are a machine grade carbon plus steel, stick a piece up to a grinder and check sparks the higher the carbon the finer and whiter the sparks.
