Hello Brendan - The stock ignition on your Bonneville IS a RITA. The 5PU pickup was an early version, long since obsolete. If you are any one else has a 5PU go bad, there is an item called, oddly enough, a 5PU replacement kit, which upgrades all of the bits residing in the points housing to the current parts. You are correct that the amplifiers are basically identical. However, there are some differences among the AB5/Abll amplifiers dealing with how they switch on and off that must be watched for. The bistable amplifier will have a splash of yellow paint on it, where the monostable amplifier does not. There are also some variances in advance curves denoted by green paint, a black case (Norton racing curve) and a radio-suppression model with blue paint for police use.
