A few weeks back there was some correspondance on the list regarding our old frend Roger G Myers, aka RGM Motors, Norton Commando parts supplier.
Roger runs his operation from an old farm, just over the hill from Sellafield,
aka Seascale in Cumbria. You know, the nuclear dustbin of the
World. I remember him telling me, (in a proud sort of way), just how
cheeply he pick up the place for. This was at a time when house prices
in the south were going crazy, and everyone else was moving out of the
Sellafield area and avoiding sheep, (Cumbria sheep glow in the dark). I
think he moved there from Newcastle some years ago, I've seen some old
adds for RGM in that area.
Anyway, Roger sells Norton parts. Some he makes himself, and some he now buys in from Andover Norton, the official 'Genuine' Norton parts suppliers who bought the business from the Norton Factory. Some years ago he got into a lot of trouble for putting his parts, made on-site in an old barn, into little plastic bags with the official 'Genuine' Norton Parts card inside.
Well, Norton found out and stopped suppling him parts for a while, about a year I think, round about 1988/89.
While I wouldn't like to say if RGM parts are, on the whole any better than the 'genuine' parts now supplied by Andover, when you order from RGM he wont say which he is sending. Several years ago, the last time I visited, he was expanding his operating and increasing the ammount of parts he makes himself.
So, comments please. I remember a pair of seat knobs for the Commando, one which stripped in about a month which were definately not 'Genuine' but cost a genuine price.
Regards, Captain Norton.

It's worth ordering from RGM just to hear the voice of that bird at the other end of the telephone line. So far, I've ordered exhaust, shocks, anti-drain valve, free floater brakes, a Tee shirt, peg rubbers. No problems so far.
Quite a bit cheaper than stateside.
Takes forever though.
